This is the problem with people here. Newark certainly isn't the safest city in the country (9th percentile), but it's more in line with something like Chicago (10th percentile) than someplace like St. Louis (1%), Detroit (2%) or Baltimore (3%).

Heck, I grew up in Phoenix. That's at 10th percentile these days. So Newark, slightly more dangerous than Phoenix.

Every thing mentioned does nothing to eliminate gangs and drugs and apathetic residents whose hands are stuck on the same voting lever.
