newark had nation's third highest murder rate in 2013, fbi says
newark had the third highest murder rate among large u.s. Cities in 2013, according to a recently released fbi report. Aristide economopoulos/the star-ledger newark — a bloody 2013 has placed newark near the top of the list of large u.s. Cities with the highest rates of murder and other violent crime.
According to the fbi’s annual uniform crime report, released last week, the brick city had a murder rate of 40 per 100,000 people, which placed it third in the country behind only detroit and new orleans, and ahead of other notoriously violent metropolises such as st. Louis, baltimore and oakland.
People realize that even a small city like Newark is still a big place right? High crime in some areas doesn't mean that there is crime everywhere. Murders in the South Bronx don't mean Manhattan isn't a glorious place to live. Murders in the Southeast don't dissuade folks from living in Dupont Circle in DC. New Haven has a really high crime rate, but the downtown and Wooster Square are quite nice. Murders in South and West wards don't really impact the Ironbound. Indeed, I'd wager the few murders that do occur there are mostly tied to the projects over by the highway.

Ironbound has had 4 homicides this year.
January - was a targeted killing. in the backstreets off South Street close to 21. The kid was at a run down night club at 2am and was shot. The shooter was caught a few days later.
June - a Brazilian man was killed in his apartment by a young guy. Rumor is that this was a gay lovers quarrel and he was going to come out and tell.
July - Fleming avenue, a brazilian woman killed her spouse who was beating on her
August - Van Buren Street - home owner stabbed an intruder.
The Ironbound doesn't have the same kind of killings that happen in the south or west. Any community of 60,000 will have domestic issues. That's what most of ours are.
The Ironbound has 0-5 homicides a year AT MOST. I am not arguing that Newark is safe.
I've been to the Ironbound section, eat Portuguese and get out of dodge. Hit the gas and didn't stop. Don't want to go back. But I agree it is the best part of Newark.
This is downtown folks in 2015!!!! The very area trying to change... Problem is these idiots will never leave...
Now be like a good newarker and shout. T1tt13s while two girls beat each others heads in
Folks this is right in front of prudential.... Thats why prudential has shuttles to drop people off at pen station, they dont want their employees forced to mix up with these idiots that want more money for their schools.
