With all this construction going on I guess the unemployment rate in Newark should go down to 0 percent. That's great to see.

The large living spaces in Newark are really selling me to the area. I am wondering at this point, for some of the shoddier places to live, what is the best time to visit to see how bad things get?

I'm waiting for the warmer days to come to drive through Newark then to get a better feel for what I'm dealing with.

At this point though, huge 5 bedroom 2300 sq ft homes for 1500 a month are something I absolutely cannot ignore. Living in 800sq ft in jersey city for 1600 a month is making me crazy.

I'm being told to avoid number streets and try to stay out of the south and west wards...which I can probably do. I cannot do the ironbound, it has the same claustrophobic feel that jersey city does, unfortunately.

What times of day are the streets the worst? I can travel them then, to get a more accurate feel for things.

I would avoid any street with a number or a letter.

Why do you think they are renting all that space for that number as opposed to what you see in JC? Newark is no place to live. Take a ride around town around 11:00 PM Friday nite. Just make sure to bring a flak jacket along.

Trust me, I live in jersey city and they shoot guns just the same. There's no huge difference, except we pay way more for complete trash apartments, and to live like sardines in the midst of crime and drugs...unless you're a part of downtown. And every city has a "downtown", including Newark.

If I'm gong to be flanked by gangs, drugs, guns and both regular and government criminals, I may as well have a gorgeous home I can afford while doing so.

I generally drive up South Orange Avenue around 11 every other Friday night...have not needed a flak jacket in six years.
