I'm sure people on this forum have moved from Westchester County, NY to (any place in?) NJ. You're much more likely to get responses if you ask specific questions or provide more information. What aspects are you asking people to compare?
I am a New Jersey native, but my wife is from Bedford, NY, and we lived in Waccabuc ( South Salem) before moving to Wall Township (where I grew up.) Difficult to compare, both have their benefits, but it's hard to beat being under a mile from the beach. Costs are lower (but not low) and a more diverse, laid back lifestyle versus hyper- competitive Westchester. I really enjoyed the hills and trees and beauty of Northern Westchester, and it is definitely more NYC- oriented, which is where I work. Commute from Westchester infinitely better due to Metro North. I did not like anything below White Plains...too urban and dense, like Northern NJ. My views only.

thanks for the insight. i did the complete opposite. left Wall, NJ to live in the White Plains area and i hate it.
however, my serious gf has a job in this area and it's a tough sell for her to uproot.

I always find statements like this odd. To me, Northern NJ is woods and hills. Do some people only know the urban areas close to the city as "Northern NJ"?

Of course "some people" only know the urban areas close to the City as Northern, NJ. Like any other urbanite they feel that if you've seen one tree, you've pretty much seen them all.
Since there is no shopping, and few people in the "Wilderness areas", most urban North New Jerseyans have neither a need nor a desire to go tramping about in the woods and hills.

LOL.
They also may really think that Hudson County comprises most of "Northern New Jersey". I work with a woman who has lived in the same Lower East Side apartment since 1968 when she came to NYC from Puerto Rico. When we had to move our office to NJ for a while, she was confused as to how some of us New Jerseyans still had an hour-long commute, since after all, we lived in NJ. Everything in NJ is visible from Manhattan and can be accessed from the NJ Turnpike, didn't you know? If it isn't, it just doesn't exist!
My husband grew up in Yonkers. He moved to the suburbs of Trenton to be with me because I grew up here and I sure wasn't moving to New York. He loves this area a lot but dislikes northern NJ and feels southern NJ is too backward for everyday life. So this area suits us perfectly and we are quite happy here.
