Cars that are manufactured in The US cause Americans to be employed, and that reality holds true whether a US factory is owned by GM, or Ford, or Honda, or Toyota, or Subaru, or BMW, or...

When governmental bodies decide to buy cars manufactured overseas, they are not helping to bolster employment in The US.

why do you think the choice was made? id imagine any choice in government is made via whichever company is willing to offer the best bribery deal.

Many years ago when I lived in Edison Twp. all the police cars were Fords. Just a coincidence that the mayor owned the local Ford dealership.

I remember they had comfortable back seats in the 50's. When we were teenagers we got lots of "free" rides.

Supporting the Ford factory located in Edison at the time also seems like reasonable motivation.

For at least 20 years, the state has done mass purchasing of standard-specification police cars, and while most of them are destined for the NJSP, there is a certain portion of them that is kept available for municipal and country governments to purchase from the state for the same price that the state paid.

The state actually gets very low pricing as a result of purchasing hundreds of these cars at a time, and they are all parked in a huge storage lot until needed by the NJSP, or until purchased by municipalities or counties. They all come from the factory with a white paint job, and then if the local or county PD want a slightly different color scheme, they can paint the fenders black, or perhaps even re-spray their cars in a different color.

Of course, municipalities are under no obligation to buy their patrol cars directly from the state's supply, so, even though most municipal police cars are of the same make & model as the cars of the NJSP, there does tend to be some variation from town to town. So...depending on when Edison purchased those Fords, it may or may not have had anything to do with the local Ford franchise owned by the mayor.

I feel like this year has brought a lot more very bad accidents, at least in the vacinity where i live. 280 has been very bad this year, and I hope that the state police are out patrolling aggressive driving, distracted driving, and speeding more. also, i know many towns have increased enforcement of distracted driving as well as cars not yielding to pedestrians....and i welcome this. don't break the law and they can't "generate revenue" from you.

NJSP always used Chevys up untill the Caprice was discontinued, and the Ford Crown Vics took over, now they are back to Chevys, cars and SUVs and some Dodge as undercover cars. The local towns use Dodge Chargers, and Ford Taurus' and Explorers. I haven't seen towns using what the NJSP are using, the Caprice cars.

I got pulled over on a back road in monmouth county on the way to work this morning. First time in 10 years of going to this area that I have ever even seen a police officer.

For those of you familiar with the area, it is Millstone/Roosevelt, and they don't have their own PD so they depend on state police who are never there. SO yes, I would say they are more present.

took me about 4 hours to get home today. that was very impressive. the turnpike was completely shut down and nobody seemed to know exactly how to get around it. eventually, I found my way to rt 1 south. google maps kept trying to bring me back to the turnpike. it did save me about 10 minutes going around some traffic on rt 1.
