Well, we have rains now and it is not that hot anymore...
But I do almost the same amount of walking as you do. I walk for close to two miles as part of my commutte. But it is about 0.6 miles to the train station from my house and about 0.3 miles from PATH station to my office. I really do not suffer from heat that much. In the morning it is cool, by the time I get back the hottest part of the day is over. And low 90th is not that hot. I would be concerned if the temperature approached 100 degrees.
But this walking keeps me more fit and healthier. And I enjoy it. There is nothing worse for me that just getting into the cra from the house and never being out on fresh air.
Yes. I do not like the heat. I can't understand people who move to Florida to retire. I would rather deal with the cold and snow!
At least in winter, one can dress appropriately and keep warm; there is only so much in the way of clothing one can take off in the summer!
Let me explain, when the heat and humidity gets to you you go inside and cool off and maybe the next day the heat is not too bad. Maybe you go to the pool.
In the NJ winters you get two feet of snow and you go outside to plow/shovel the snow and when it gets too cold you go back inside to warm up. The next day you back outside and and start shoveling or plowing snow again. The next week do it again.
I had enough of NJ Winters.
BTW it's been 90+ for the last month and somehow people are getting by.
It's just not for me. I feel nauseated the second I step out into that humid hot brick of air. I can handle cold, snow, ice without problem. I'll go for a walk, ski, or skate in it. I just want to hibernate through these heat waves.

...and let us not forget that many places in NYC and other urban areas smell like a gigantic urinal when temperatures climb. Altogether...not pleasant...
It's not really the heat that's so bad, it's the humidity.
