I recently bought a summer car that I will probably want stored in the winter. Is there any easy way I can rent a storage garage for the months of November to end of March? I posted in our nextdoor online community but there were no bites- ideally I'd like somewhere within walking distance and away from the snow/snowploughs.

Most of the commercial storage sites have rentals big enough for a car. Most allow a car to be stored inside. Downside is that it will cost you a few hundred a month.

We're in Canal Pointe. Wish the snow plows would come near our car. LOL Seems like I spend the entire winter digging out our car. The plows only do the middle of the parking area & they deliberately stay away from the parked cars.

Why not ask a neighbor or friend who doesn't use their garage and throw them $100 a month.

Ehh, most of my friends are either apartment-dwelling singles or already using their garages for storage/car. I would love to have a cash agreement with someone who just isn't using a space due to their son/daughter being out for college or some such. Maybe I should search Craigslist or better yet just knock on people's doors!

I wonder if you could find something on Craigslist, either an ad that was already posted or by posting your own ad. I have a detached garage that I use to store junk in, but could definitely still fit a car. I'm going to move at some point this winter or else I'd offer it up for you (although I live an hour away, so likely wouldn't have worked). I imagine there are others in the same position- very few people use their detached garages for cars since they are usually more hassle than just parking on the driveway.

Be careful about renting some unknown location. If something happens to the car, you will be on your own. Check your insurance first.

I am sure there are plenty of unknown opportunities for this right in your own neighborhood. Look around at all your neighbors -- and if you don't see something on craigslist, then post an "ISO" on your own. If that doesn't turn up something -- then yes, I would start knocking on doors or ask your neighbors if they know of someone. Senior citizens, snow-birds, empty nest'ers, college kids going back to school, etc.

Since you are considering outside parking, check with the local gas stations or mechanics. They may have a spot somewhere on the property, and you should certainly consider covering the car and "winterizing" it to some extent.
