I am moving from Sydney Australia to a job on Wall Street. I am used to living in a large house within a nice suburb and was told that Metuchen (or Summit) are places i might want to investigate for my new home.
So a couple of questions, travel times and inconvenience factor from Metuchen to Wall Street (crowded/interchanges/reliability)? What sort of place would $800k upwards get me? and finally, is the wife going to go crazy living there, is there a decent amount of stuff happening during the day?

For 800k in Metuchen, you could probably get the nicest new house on the block. In Summit, you would get an old construction and average house on the block. Summit is definitely a lot nicer than Metuchen.

Metuchen is pretty nice. $800k will get you a nice house. There is a train station right in town. You can take NJ Transit to Newark then transfer to the PATH to Wall St. Probably take about an hour. Metuchen also has a nice walkable downtown with shops and such. Your wife should be able to find stuff to do.

There is plenty to do in Metuchen and surrounding towns. Metuchen is known as the "richer" town in the area and has a good school system.

Metuchen is a great small town. You should be able to get a large house for that price.
Metuchen has a nice main street with a lot of different types of restaurants and coffee shops. There are many different churches, a nice library and a beautifully renovated and expanded YMCA. There seems to be a lot of activities going on town geared towards families too.
Good luck!

So far it's 3 to 1 that Metuchen is a nice place to live and I agree. It has always been known as a nice little town too bad somebody(internet real estate expert) always has another town that's "a lot nicer"

Metuchen is an adorable little town. Depending on where you live, it is even a walkable town which a lot of people find really desirable in NJ.

True, people in Metuchen walk a lot. It is also close to just about everything...Menlo Park Mall, Rts. 1,27 and 287 plus the Garden State Parkway.
The schools are great and there is also a lot of community involvement... even organizations like Kids in Production which is combined parents and children doing volunteer benefits.

The Side of metuchen near central avenue is going to be the ideal place to live in town. you will be able to be near metuchen's new extention of down town. in about five years the entire strip of central avenue will be redeveloped like west field an all brand new down town. The food town developement should be started this summer. the old dodge dealer is in the works to be developed. So is the land near joey d's.
