We will be moving to NJ soon from Chicago. My wife work location would be in Ramsey and mine would be in Bridgewater, NJ.

We are a small family with a little daughter. I am wondering if you guys can please suggest places to live in between, and possible commute to Bridgewater and Ramsey from there during the peak time.

I am more inclined to reduce commute for my wife as she would be picking and dropping my daughter from the daycare.

Thanks a lot

Parsippany and Wayne. Both towns are very safe, family oriented and with quick access to Rt 287 which will help your commutes.

Thanks Davenj08

Appreciate your reply. Is 287 pretty backed up during the peak hours?

All highways in NJ are packed during peak hours. Some are packed all day, everyday. Unfortunately we have a lot of traffic.
Towns along 287 would be ideal for both your commutes.

Will you be renting or buy? What type of budget are you working with?

Yes, 287 is backed up during peak hours but north of Parsippany/I-80 it is not too bad. Parsippany is a fantastic town and has easy access to both 287 and 80. Wayne though good is a bit remote and no direct access to highways. What you might want to consider is use a daycare closer to your wife's workplace, instead of having it close to home.

Great. Thanks JerseyGirl/Daven

We are planning to rent. We could afford up to $1800/2000 per month for 2 bed.

How long approx. would it take to drive during peak hours from Parsippany to Ramsey and from Parsippany to Bridgewater?

Think of a box
Ramsey at the top-right
Bridgewater in the Bottom left

In the top-left, is Morristown, Parsippany, Pompton Plains area.
In bottom-right, as a choice, would be say Westfield, Cranford area

From top left, pick along I-287,
would commute South to Bridgewater down 287
Commute to Ramsey, east along I-80 or maybe north/east along 287 parallel state line in NY

Both commutes in the hour +/- , especially in rush hour

Bridgewater has major highways running thru and close to it.
Ramsey, not so much, more buried in suburbia and hills
