So I was driving down East Freehold Road and there was a cop on the other side of the road who was already engaged with someone. As soon as I passed him, he turned around and followed me for about 25 seconds and switched his lights on. I pulled over and he walked passed me and looked at the front of my bumper. Thing is I just got that bumper because I hit a deer and this bumper doesn't even have any holes yet for any bracket installation for the plate. So after he looked at the front bumper and walked towards me, I said, "did i get pulled over for not having a front license?" and he said yes. Then I told him the story of how I was going to get the bracket this week. This was the weird part...he then said ok and started asking me if I have any points on my record and if I have been pulled over recently. I told him that I'm not sure if I have any points and that I was pulled over a couple of months ago for talking on the phone. Then he took my ID and went back to to his car. Then he came back and told me that I still have 1 point from a stop sign infraction that I got over a year ago and this was the even more weird part, he said I was pulled over before for having no front licence plate and I told him that I have never been pulled over for it he kept saying I did. He asked me if anyone else drives this car and I told him it was just me. Then he gave me the ticket.

I am so upset. First of all, why was he asking me if I've been pulled over before and why was he telling me about my point even though it has nothing to do with this whole situation. And he lied about being pulled over before. What can I do to fight this...

They have a routine where they keep asking certain questions just to see if you're truthful. Don't ask me why they do this. Honestly, your plate was missing, so Im not really sure if there is any way to Fight this. Other experts might Know better. My experience, when living in NJ, was that cops would find reasons (especially at Night) to pull me over...Tinted Windows, I crossed over a white line, I heard it all. That's 1 thing I don't miss, LOL.
Sorry about this.

Have you ever fought any of those infractions or did you just end up paying it?

Usually, just got warnings. I think they just wanted excuses to run my license to make sure I was clean, or whatever. But if i did get a ticket, i just Payed it. Thankfully, Im out of NJ now. Here, they only give tickets if u actually do something wrong. What a concept!

Bring the dated accident report from hitting the deer. You said you just got a new bumper. Maybe the judge will cut you a break. It's only a fine, no points.

They usually work together. The prostitutor as I call em, they usually go over your case in a separate room although sometimes 2 or 3 other cases in the same room one after the other, then they send you back in to the court room to make it official when they call you up to the bench.

Being that this is a no-point fine, meaning what they call an equipment violation instead of a moving violation, might just look it up and see what the fine is, I think if you go to court they charge you an extra $33 or #35 court costs

I have lived in Florida since 1990. Back in the 1990s I was going to visit my parents who still lived in Point Pleasant Beach at the time and I had a state trooper whip around behind me on Route 70, I didnt get pulled over but i know he turned around for lack of a front tag (I know license plate in NJ) Just a reason to pull you over and maybe find something else, like a warrant or drugs in the car etc... Be happy it was only a fine. If you have time you can always go to court

Pay it, forget it, move on. It's not worth tying up a night of your time.
