I was wondering is Old Bridge a good place to buy a house? Prices seem to be moderate, but my main concern is about schools, are they good? Also commute to Manhatten - how long can it take.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Old Bridge is a big and beautiful town. Although I do not live there now, I grew up there and my mother still lives in the same house I grew up in. Come to think of it, she has been there 33 yrs. Commute to Manhattan maybe 40-45 min. Also they have the bus to take you right into Penn station. Hope that helped.

I live in Old Bridge now and my brother and sister went to school there-brother just graduated last year. Good schools and nice town. Close to Rts 9 and 18 which will bring you to the Parkway and turnpike respectively. Only bad thing I can say about OB is traffic on Rt. 516 at rush hour and on weekends during football season is a bear. I like OB a lot.

Default Thank you very much

Thank you very much for your replies. Very helpful. Can I also ask you if this town has some kind of downtown area? I was wondering it it's more suburban or rural type of place...

I'd say Suburban. Lots of different developments. Schools are great in OB. As I am one of the alumni There's no downtown though. When I think of a down town, I think Keyport type area along the waterfront. Lot's of quaint little shops.

I've been living in Old Bridge for the last 21 years. Really a great town, good school system, but taxes are very high. I'm paying $7500 on a house (42 years old) worth about $450,000.

There are newer developments where the houses are over $600,000 and paying $13,000 plus.

I work with a lot of people that live in Old Bridge. The total commute time is longer than 50 minutes from the people I spoke with. Depending on where you work in mid-town, you should figure on a 90 minute door-to-door commute, which is pretty good for commuting into NYC.

While I don't commute into the city. The Matawan train is about 1 hour to Penn Station. Don't really think the Bus from Route 9 to the Port Authority is more than 1 hour.
