Your EZ-Pass account and or wallet will take a larger hit. At least they waited until after the Thanksgiving holiday...

Does this weekend's upcoming toll hike at bridges, tunnels have a tiny silver lining? - News - NorthJersey.com

There's a reason we drive 30 miles out of our way to take the Tappan Zee bridge when visiting my in-laws in Yonkers.

On the way home, though, we'll happily take the GWB if there's no traffic.

So, you're going to spend $40 worth of vehicle expenses to avoid a $15 toll?

What a great idea...

Hardly some sort of shock and no "wait" at all. This increase was scheduled several years ago. Doesn't make it easier to swallow, lol, but everyone knew it was coming and when.

TapanZee also has toll. So the savings won't be the entire $15.

It's not $40 extra to drive 30 miles. The tolls by avoiding the NJTP in favor of the GSP are also less. I know that there is extra gas, wear & tear on the car to consider, but there's no way that adds up to $40. The 30 miles is 1 gallon of gas, which is about $2 these days. Instead of 70 miles, it's about 100 miles one way. It also allows us to stop at the Palisades mall if we wish, which we do on occasion.

We also don't go up that often, so the savings is worth it.

Is this the most expensive bridge or tunnel crossing in the world?

There is no savings. It costs $0.57 / mile to operate a vehicle.

Oh, you forgot about oil, tires, insurance, depreciation, and maintenance?

Not sure, but definitely the busiest vehicular bridges and tunnels in the world.

I will mention there is an EZ Pass plan, you have to go onto your account and enroll, and its only on the Staten Island bridges, Goethals, Bayonne, Outerbridge, that if you go over 3 or more times a month the tolls go down to half price or less.

For instance I have friends from LI and didn't know that, visit NJ often, they jumped onto that.
Won't help on the crossing into Manhattan nor on the "Guintified Gangplank" VZB, that one is a diff agency.

also, if you have a NY based EZ Pass (anyone can), you can sign up for the car pool discount plan. The catch? Have to have 3 or more people in the car...and take the cash lane

but it drops the price from $15 down to < $5 (at least it used to--havent checked after this last increase)
