Anyone knows of a good place (preferably in the Northern part of the state where you can get some good fried chicken? Chicken and waffles are becoming fashionable in local restaurants and everywhere I tried them were just plain horrible. Tasting them here in the North, only made me crave the real thing (waffles optional).

Anyone have any suggestions?

Since you seem pretty serious when it comes to your fried chicken and you mentioned north Jersey you might as well go to the city where soul food fried chicken is an art form but still down home and not fancy in some spots. Why not go to Bobwhite? Doesn't get more Southern-style than that and they (with a few others, Charles Country, Amy Ruth's) top all the fried chicken lists. Not fancy either.
