Yup!
I am another long-term Turbo Tax user.
Many years ago, one of the women at work marveled that I would even attempt doing my own tax returns because "You have to understand tax law, and other details". I responded that, as long as somebody comprehends English, can answer simple questions, and is able to copy/input the information on all of the 1099s and other documents that he/she has received, then it is actually not difficult at all.
However, she was still skeptical, so I demonstrated Turbo Tax for her, and she became an instant convert. She is now also a long-term Turbo Tax user.
One year, perhaps because it was a bit cheaper, I tried another software package (Tax Cut, perhaps?), and while it functioned similarly to Turbo Tax, the real difference showed up when it came time to print the return and supporting calculation sheets for my own records. This other package proceeded to print EVERY schedule and calculation sheet that existed, even if it hadn't applied to my own circumstances, and even if the only entries were "zero". I used almost an entire ream of paper with that software, and resolved to never again use anything other than Turbo Tax.
used the free agent help on the phone for this issue and they provided a much better solution than my employer :thumbups" to their customer service. they basically helped me avoid using some form that no one ever uses. why my jobs tax group advised otherwise is beyond me!
Your job's tax group advised you otherwise because they didn't want to take the trouble to do their job.
I use IRS fillable forms. Completely free, and I can just fill in 1040 EZ online (instead of on paper), and transmit to IRS. Loot is in my bank in 10 Days, Or So.

If I just did the 1040 EZ I wouldn't buy software, but with mortgage interest, etc. I use the software, before I bought a house (and online filing) I use to use the regular 1040, (don't think they had the EZ then).
One year I had too much time on my hands so I actually did my taxes using 2 different software packages, Turbo Tax and the H&R Block one. Obviously I only submitted one of the returns (Turbox Tax). The interesting thing was that even though I entered the exact same information into both software packages, I actually got different results. The difference wasn't significant, maybe $20 or so. I think TurboTax was higher.
Turbotax. Unless your taxes are hella complicated it's fine. Mine are easy... "how much you make? Send it in. Deductions? Ha ha, we've got an AMT for that".
Unless you have a complicated situation, TurboTax is pretty idiot proof. When we had a company, we had an accountant who did our taxes, but now we have just a house, a few investments, and regular 1099 income and I knock it out in an afternoon.

Thats reasonable. I just use Standard Deduction, so that makes it super fast. I just don't have enough stuff to deduct that comes anywhere near S.D..
