Hee is a forest hills article with map

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2007/08/26...?_r=0&referer=

Personally I wouldn't move there. Anytime you go home you'll have to drive through sketchy areas and be reminded your in Newark. The Ironbound is sectioned off from the rest of Newark.

Ivy Hill is a the area of Vailsburg that west of Sanford. It's called 'Upper Vailsburg' in a lot of real estate web site and Google Maps. I think I've heard people that live there generally call it Ivy Hill though.

Here's a poster that shows the neighborhoods of Newark: http://www.newarkpulse.com/images/up...map-blk-lg.jpg

I would type "Forest Hill, Newark, NJ" into Google Maps for a map of the neighborhood. I personally would avoid anything east of Mt. Prospect Ave. As a general rule, the more north and west you go in the neighborhood, the nicer the neighborhood gets. I would explore streets such as Ballantine Parkway, Heller Parkway, Grafton Ave(west of Mt. Prospect Ave) etc.

For Ironbound, I would type "Ironbound District, Newark, NJ" into google maps. Ironbound is a big neighborhood, I would look into the area near Ferry St. The downside is that the Ironbound is notoriously for traffic and the lack of parking.

Unfortunately Ivy Hill is not on google maps. Ivy Hill is located in bigger Upper Vailsburg section. You can type in "Upper Vailsburg, Newark, NJ" but it going to give you surrounding areas that also are rough. I would look at anything in the vicinity of Ivy Hill Park. This area border South Orange. As a general rule, the closer you get to South Orange border, the nicer the neighborhood. I would personally avoid anything near South Orange Ave on the Newark side of the border. As far as I know, their are no condos in this area. Also like I mentioned before, while Ivy Hill is quiet, ironically it's located in one of the most dangerous part of Newark (The West Ward) and near the Irvington border. So you might have to travel through some pretty rough surrounding neighborhood to get to work.

As far as downtown is concerned, I would look at Society Hill or the Renaissance Condo.

I was a Cop in that area for 20 years and you are INSANE....insane for WANTING to move into Newark. The schools are the WORST so you will have to pay for private school, crime is off the hook...as in MURDERS...Ivy Hill is nothing but the UN of apartments. I worked for a company near Rutgers on Washington street and they had to have 2 off duty cops watch the women walk to their cars so they didn't get attacked.

There is an old saying....YOU CAN'T SHINE A TURD....and Newark is one huge TURD.

Obviously a police officer what worked in the city and saw all of the problems on a daily basis will have a negative opinion of the city. I've live there 30 years and never have been a victim of crime while living in the Ironbound.

It's funny how our school are so bad yet parents from Kearny, Union, Elizabeth and Hillside all send there kids to Ann Street or Wilsone Avenue schools while they are 6-10 years old.

What city comparable to Newark or the Ironbound is "as safe" as they once were?

Can you please clarify for the poster that the murders that happen in Newark are predominately in the South and West wards which is no where near the Ironbound or most of the other areas. The murders are also mostly drug dealers and gang members. Not your average Joe being shot randomly. Good Newark residents aren't being murdered.
