NJ highways that need an additional lane (i.e. those roads that were *designed* for a future lane addition) (real estate)

for example: Rt. 24 & Rt. 280 --

each of these two were built as 2 lanes each way, but enough real estate was allocated (at the time of construction) for the predicted/expected expansion.

but in yet another case of NIMBY-ism, the new settlers clamored that adding a lane would increase traffic...

HELLO ??!!

traffic is already jammed, adding a lane will not encourage further usage of the road !!

24 sucks as you approach 78 east.

When doing construction on 78 they had 3 lanes from 24 to 78 and there was rarely any back ups. They finish the construction and go back to 2 lanes (when there's plenty of room for 3)...back ups every freakin day.

Rumor has it that NJ is approx. 15 years behind with it's highway const. based on population growth in this State...don't expect to see any improvements any time soon : )

Even with the "mass exodus" I've never seen a difference in anything. I actually see more construction of homes, condos, apts. etc, taking place then I've ever seen before.

Makes you wonder - where do "they" get their statistics". Personally, I feel NJ is about the same...economically - maybe a bit slower but it always is in NJ in the winter..we are the "small contractor - self employed State".

I have only had my license for about 10 years so I don't remember very much about how traffic was in maybe the early 90's and 80's. I know from about the mid-90's on the traffic is about the same: traffic jams in the same places, how long it takes me to get somewhere.

Does anyone remember views if there has been a change in traffic over the last 20 years or so? And I'm mainly speaking about the north jersey area because central and south jersey have definitely become more crowded due to urbanization.

Just curious.
