So here is my basic situation - I have had personalized plates in NJ state for awhile and I am on my second leased vehicle (they transferred from the first one, no problem). Now I would like to give them up and get some basic govt issues plates.

Do I just take them off and walk in to DMV and pay whatever small replacement fee they charge? Or do I have to hustle my leasing company for Power of Attorney and such?

I looked all over on the web and everyone is talking about going personalized but not about reversing that. So if anyone has experience with this process I would appreciate a little insight. Thanks

You should just call the DMV.
