I have visited Union City, Hudson County, quite often. It seems to me to be all Hispanic. It is rare for me to even see white non hispanic Americans there. I sometimes wonder if there are White Americans there.
Is this town welcoming towards whites? Would whites suffer mild discrimination over language barrier and not being part of the dominant social group?
I'm looking at this from a sociological perspective. I don't live there. How would you see white non Hispanic Americans thriving there?
Speaking from my area of Cape May County.Where we are seeing more Hispanic Americans coming here, which I really dont know why, because most of Cape May County is seasonal, and very low-wage jobs, most of the true locals and there kids have moved, because of the lack of work, and low wages. But back to the welcome wagon.I think the whites would have alot of discrimination, reason being which is the opinion of many whites in my area is the Hispanics move into our neighboorhoods and we try to welcome them, and have a friendly help for them, now this is with both men and women of the hispanics who move here, they just dont want to being involved, talk, and be part of the neighboorhood,no matter how we try. They have a very bad attitude. And if you do get to talk to one of them, about the area, they bring up the race card.I dont understand this all.So they really dont seem at all to be part of the neighboorhood and be friendly at all.So them the bottom line is,neighboors just stop trying, and we think that what they want.So its yes to your question about discrimintion against white people.SAD!

The only person I know who lives in West New York is a white woman of Irish descent.
I'm a hispanic person from Union City, now residing in North Bergen. The area is very welcoming towards white people but I understand your concern. If you'd like to stay closer to other white people I suggest stay towards Park Avenue (closer to Weehawken) and not downtown (under 32nd Street). There's actually a lot more white people moving into Union City due to the condo developments. Good luck!

I've heard upper UC is more expensive and better. I don't know if I'm correct or not, but the people I know who have worked or used to live in UC say that is very political. That the political system only caters to Hispanics. I knew someone who moved there for the free prek, The child was forced to take a Spanish class for like an hour a week. When asked why it was only Spanish being taught as an elective (like music, computer, ect) when most of the students know Spanish anyway, they were given the run around. The next year, they actually moved because the class teacher refused to talk English to the kids and when their child said "I don't know" to what the teacher was saying, the teacher said "I don't believe you don't know Spanish". I wanted to say WTF, but the couple told me they were often "accused" of being from white Hispanic areas (like Cuba) and passing for nonHispanic. Also, they went to the board of ed about this and were again given the run around. Through some investigating, they found out the teacher was a relation of a high up and often didn't teach the class.
Here's a thought. Move to Jersey City Heights instead of Union City. It's practically right there. Just south of where Union City ends. This would be more integrated more appropriate for a white person. Union City is majority Spanish. I don't think discrimination is the word. I think it's more just the fact that you will be totally ignored.
My god, i've had it....we're all americans...lets stop this bs.
Coming soon, English as a second language.
