From the several posts I've read about Colonia, I've heard some good things about the town - good schools, nice quiet community for families. Good location to city, maybe just doesn't have the direct train line as other towns do. (doesn't matter to me though, I work in Rahway)
But when reading postings on people asking for suggestions on where to live around this area, people usually throw the names of other towns around Colonia, such as Clark, Cranford, Scotch Plains, northern Edison, Metuchen, etc. I know these other places are a bit more expensive than Colonia, but I guess it just throws a few red flags in my mind when these other towns are usually mentioned and not Colonia!
Is there anything about Colonia that I should be aware of that makes it not as desirable? How is the crime in the area? The schools don't rank as high as those in surrounding towns, but are they still "very good", "good" or just "average"?
I am drawn to Colonia for its location (I work in Rahway), and it seems to be one of the few nice areas that has decent sized homes in my price range (my max budget is $350k, seeking 3BR 1.5+ Ba single family home). I'm hoping to get your opinions, especially those who live in Colonia - any regrets or dislikes about the town? - otherwise suggestions for other towns that fits the bill of close to Rahway (20-30 min), nice home for $350k, very safe, good school system and just nice overall town to live in?
I lived in Colonia most of my life, 50+ years.
Trains, you can pick from Rahway or Metro Park.
Shopping, Woodbridge Center or Menlo Park.
Food Shopping, 5 different chains to pick from.
Short ride to pick up the parkway, turnpike, Rt 1 & 9, 287.
Safe, yes.
Schools are good.
Just do a search of Colonia and you will see it has been mentioned a lot
And everyone that has mentioned it has nothing bad to say about it
It is a great family town with a lot of good people
