After about 5 months of house hunting, we finally making an offer (realtor drafting the offer and we gonna sign the offer tomorrow) on a beautiful house at Holmdel of Monmouth County !
I current work in midtown east of NYC (Lexington Ave around E 60th Street), hence the commute gonna suck no matter where we live in NJ. Since Homdel has Academy Bus that goes to Port Authority as well as Ferry goes to East River Ferry terminal, which is already much better than a lot of towns in NJ...
***Putting away the excitement***
What are the necessary things to know about Holmdel before making the move ?
The house we're buying is in a dead end corner lot & close to the entrance to the garden state parkway, with ~10 minuets drive to PNC Bank Art Center Academy Bus , also ~10 minuets drive to Middle town train station (I heard parking there is super hard ??), and ~ 20 minute drive to Atlantic Highlands Ferry, plus ~10 minutes driving to shopping centers (stop & shop / costco / shoprite / wholefoods....)
Some concern about the future life at Holmdel at this point:
1.
Looking around our potential neighbors, they all sit on 1 acre lot and have big large driveways plus a 2/3 cars garage, hence you don't really see many cars parking on the street. But we do notice there some households seems not like using their driveway / garage and instead they park their 3~4 cars on the street...
Is there anything I can do , in case, some neighbor decide to park their car in front of our house on daily basis? Some town in NJ does ticket / tow away cars that park on street more than 48 hours, but I don't know if Holmdel is one of them...
2.
I noticed driving speed of most cars on the one-lane curvish roads at Holmdel are incredibly fast -- everyone doing 60 mph at 45 mph zone , is it a normal practice here ? This kinda reminds me of East Long Island....
3.
How's the cops in Holmdel ? Do they frequently give tickets to drivers ?
I live in Hazlet, not Holmdel but people drive too fast everywhere here. One surprising thing is that Holmdel still has half day Kindergarten.
If the ferry works for your schedule it is a much better commute than anything else.
