Does anyone know what the average wait is for a commuter parking permit at the Watsessing and Bloomfield Avenue stations? Are there other parking options in the vicinity of those stations? There aren't any jitney lines, correct? Thanks for any info.

For anyone interested in this info., I just spoke with Bloomfield parking authority this week. They indicated that it is about a 3 year wait for a parking spot at the Bloomfield Ave. station. There are metered spots near that station that you can park at for up to 12 hours. Bloomfield station now has free jitney service - a south end jitney (that goes east of the station) and a north end one, that goes up Broad St. It is limited though - it makes 4 trips in the morning, and 5 trips in the evening. The times may work more in favor of midtown or Hoboken commuters, based on the time, since they are designed to service the midtown and Hoboken trains that arrive / depart within 10 min. or so of each other (so you may be hanging out at the station 10 min. longer than you'd like).

Why don't you park at that ghetto Pathrmark on Bloomfield Ave in Montclair, then walk like 2 blocks to the Bay St. station?

Bloomfield now has garage parking for 50$/month. Even non residents can buy the permit and there is no wait time.

I've heard they are only offering monthly permits for another few months before moving over to all daily parking in the deck.

For Bloomfield residents who want to ride a bus there is also NJT's no 72. The one disadvantage is that you do have to walk from Bloomfield Avenue at Watessing Park to the station; less than 10 minutes and not impossible but not convenient either. The advantages are buses are 20 minutes apart during rush hours and 30 minutes apart during mid day and there is week end service. The buses run along Broad Street into Clifton while the jitney stops at West Passiac Avenue so if you live in the north end of town they are much closer. Finally, for those who do find the jitney convenient the 72 bus is there if you get home a little early or a little late or need to get to the station on a week end.
