My husband and I are now retired and are thinking of moving out of NJ but I don't want to be too far from my children and grandchildren here in central NJ. We're considering the Poconos in PA.....but I'm thinking that maybe there are other areas in PA to consider. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

There's the Poconos, then there's the Lehigh Valley area (Lehigh and Northampton counties) and Bucks county (across the river from Trenton).

Check out Bucks county - the poconos are too close to Stroudsburg and there is alot of gang, yes in PA - issues at the moment. Bucks County is beautiful! Areas just outside of New Hope would be my recommendation.

Montgomery County, PA is also not far from NJ (maybe 1.5 hour drive to most places in NJ) and has some nice towns.

It sounds as if your children are grown and out of the house. If that is the case, then you definitely want to look at Pike County in the northern part of the Poconos. Excellent quality of life here, low cost of living, but terrible if you have kids. There is nothing for them to do, and they wind up hating it here. On the other hand, if you are retired or getting close, it's the perfect solution!

I left NJ for PA, and the trip back to visit relatives is easy. My brother lives in Somerset. Let me know if you want any more information.
