I'm originally from new york city and I am thinking about moving to hackensack. I saw some apartments on state street and I was hoping someone could tell me about the area after essex street heading towards Anderson street.

I personally think it varies, although north of Mercer may be better. I wasn't too aware of that much housing along State - be aware of s/t in an refinished store front. Just a caution.

I don't have any stats on the area but it's a little sketchy to me.

During the day State Street is fine, but it's a lot of county gov't buildings and can get empty at night. Basically between State and Railroad from Essex up to Passaic you might want to exercise some caution...Try checking out what's on Prospect.

Yeah, I would agree. Prospect would be a better choice. Lots of apartment buildings there...very residential area.
