Here you go, the state of NJ tells us it may be a year before the cause is established!!!!?????

shake your head and weep at the government that runs the state and the political hacks that maintain it.

why cant they just ask the driver? he survived and is in good condition. Shouldnt there be an army of people there asking him questions the minute he woke up and is healthy enough to answer?

from CNN:

Fabiola Bittar de Kroon, 34, of Hoboken, died after debris struck her while she was on the platform, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said. An additional 114 people were injured, he said.

The engineer, Thomas Gallagher, 48, was treated and released from a hospital.

Gallagher, who has worked for the New Jersey Transit for 29 years, hasn't yet spoken with National Transportation Safety Board investigators, the official with knowledge of the investigation said.

The NTSB also will want to interview two other members of the train's crew: a conductor and a rear brake man, NTSB vice chairwoman Bella Dinh-Zarr said.

A neighbor, Tom Jones, told CNN affiliate WABC-TV that Gallagher said his childhood dream was to become an engineer. "Just a fine, fine family," Jones said of the Gallaghers. "Great next-door neighbors, wonderful kids, very caring people about others."

NJ is not the lead investigator, the Federal NTSB is. These investigation normally take many months to a year to do.

The US NTSB is the Gold Standard of accident investigation, they train the investigates from around the world.

No, actually-the NTSB has a highly regimented and specific method of interviewing all involved in order to get a clear picture of what happened. The outcome of the investigation can affect everything from whether or not the engineer is charged criminally, to whether or not he loses his job, to determining where liability falls (whether solely on him, on NJTransit, etc...), so getting it wrong is not an option.

...and our Libertarian friends can pray to have the NTSB abolished because it is a part of Big Government...

Not to mention the regulations they're going to want people to abide by when they use these means of transportation...

I suppose if everyone builds their own roads they'd have some bewildering array of Local Transportation Safety Boards...
