Go to your town Board of Education site, that will have dates for kindergarten registration. In my town, reg isn't until after the first of the year, so you have some time. You will need to fill out paperwork, prove residency (they will outline necessary documents to do this), and get your child up to date on all immunizations. There will be a universal healthcare form that you can drop off at your pediatrician to fill out - give them enough time to do it. Right around kindergarten registration they are always hit with parents dashing in last minute to get their paperwork done. Since your child is on the younger side, chances are he/she will not have had his or her 5 year old shots yet - you'll just need to bring an updated form once those are done.

The process is easy. In my town we registered in person on a certain day. First you met with a person who ensured that you had all of the necessary paperwork, then you met with the school nurse who went over the health forms.

good luck and don't stress. Reg is easy. It's the start of the school year that had me scrambling!

All we did was to copy and paste that list to Amazon and clicked the "Order" button. Problem solved with almost no stress as long as you order at least a week before school starts. Driving to the crowded stores in ridiculous Bergen county traffic will of course cause a lot of stress. But that is why on-line shopping was invented.

Well, buying school supplies through Amazon wasn't an option for me 20 years ago, but good point.

School supply shopping was actually fun. We had a local family-owned stationery and gift store in town, and they stocked up on the school supplies in the weeks before September. It wasn't as cheap as the big stores on the highway, but the quality was good and you were supporting a local business and since that Bergen County town is only 1.3 square miles, there was little driving to do. It was almost a social event going to Havel's with your list and running into people you knew--sort of a small-town event that doesn't happen much anymore.

I used to tell the Havels that they had to stay in business till my dd graduated from high school. I think they closed the store and retired in her senior year.

And now...she's 25 and back in school for five more years! But I don't have to buy her supplies anymore.. She's on her own.
