I am concerned as I read lot of places on internet that careless driving with personal injuries will get you arrested.

To be on safe, I am planning to hiring an attorney.

It was really a scary accident but thank god, no one was seriously injured

Why would they want me to appear in the court ?

The traffic ticket says court appearance required.

I asked Police Officer, the reason for the court appearance , he said it is because of personal injury
I had to go to traffic court when I was in an accident and neither of us were injured. I got the ticket, so they just wanted money. That's probably why you're going. Find out what types of payment they want before you go. I took a checkbook and credit cards. They preferred a check.

You'll be fine. They just want the money.

My son was involved in a classic fender bender a few months ago. Everybody slamming on their brakes, and he put a nice dent in the bumper, cracked the light lens of the guy's car ahead. They pulled over and exchanged insurance information. The guy, at least 30 his senior said, "I don't see any need to call the police." There wasn't much damage and no one was hurt. Two days later, he got a call from his insurance company. The guy drove directly to the police station, filed a report, and was now claiming injuries. The insurance covered that. The very nice woman from the insurance company said to not worry because they'd cover the possibly broken finger and neck pain.

Look on the bright side. You didn't kill anyone or maim them for life.

Not necessarily maybe the officer felt you needed a slap on the wrist because it was your fault and maybe you should be a more cautious driver.

You don't have to get a ticket for an at fault accident, that's at the discretion of the police officer. In the accident report there are blocks that the officer fills out placing contributing factors for each driver.

I know someone else that happened to. Of course I only got 1 side of it but this person said they tapped someone's bumper in the drive up to the ATM, other person said they were OK, I guess they exchanged info. Supposedly the other person went straight from the drive up to the emergency room, claiming back and neck pain.

Thanks a lot everyone for answering my questions. I am little bit relaxed now.

This was first time ever i was involved in an accident.

The reason, i got scared was the other guys car was rolled over. which was very surprising

I was completely shocked, shaken and was at loss to even speak

Today, I went to police station and EMS to enquire about the injuries and his overall condition.

They declined to provide complete details

But it seems, He was talking and walking fine and had minor shoulder injury.

They also told me to get on with my life and don't think about this, as these type of accidents are common.

They categorized it as non life threatening injury. No death/ No major bodily injury

Since every cell phone has a camera, take a picture of the other car and if you exchange info, take a picture of the insurance card and the other guy's license.

He was just surprised. It sounded as though the other guy didn't want to involve insurance. No damage to his truck.

Nope. It was at a rural intersection and there were only two cars in the area. The woman who hit me told me that she was driving fast because she was on her way to the big day out in the city with her friend. She didn't say that to the officer. I stopped at the two way, and then she nailed me. Her phone was in her hand, and she had makeup on one eye.

The absolutely best part of this story is that my ride didn't show up in a timely fashion. The senior officer dropped me off at a convenience store a mile down the road. Thankfully, because I needed to use a bathroom and I was freezing after standing on the side of the road for an hour and a half in late October. It was a Wawa. Bathrooms were clean, coffee was hot, but everyone was staring at me. Oh, I was the woman who'd gotten out of a police car. LOL

Many tickets even for lesser stuff make you go into court, I think for cell phone use, etc. Its a formality where depending on what the local custom in that town goes you get to process the case and or make deals etc.

Usually with any accident, it's better to settle things out of court. Depending on severity. If someone is hurt, ask to take them to a nearby emergency care center not the hospital. If they are willing, just pay for their care. Trust me, if their injuries only cost you a few $1-3k, it's not as bad as them going to hospital and rack up $30k worth of stupid hospital fees.

Then you can avoid all of the stupid court drama if you pay them off.

At least in NJ a person has 2 yrs to file a lawsuit, we also have "no fault" insurance. There is really nothing to stop them from filing 18mo later. Let the insurance company handle it. That's what you pay insurance for.
