I was thinking of buying this "Ultimate Gel Seat Cushion" from costco (Winplus Ultimate Gel Seat Cushion | Costco Weekender) to see if it can help with my backpain while working at a computer desk for long hours. A warning on the box says "PROP 65 Warning: This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm."

So now I have to choose between back pain vs cancer? What a disappointing scenario. Why does someone like Costco put consumer livess at such a risk?

BTW if anyone here have recommendations for a seat cushion to reduce back pain, I am all ears. I have been strolling through costco, walmart, Ikea etc., I liked the costco one but the cancer warning is a bit scary.

Just don't eat the cushion and you should be fine.

Ever been to California? That warning is EVERYWHERE.

I wouldn't worry about it. Because that warning is so overused and there's no penalty for incorrectly posting it, it's meaningless.

Sitting causes prolong backpain, the key to reducing backpain is standing, walking, and exercise to strengthen the lower back area that is weak and injured.

I guarantee that no product will ever help your backpain until you improve your lower back.

I used to have backpain but I don't. When I take a bus or train, I opt to stand.

You have to stop sitting for more than 15 or 20 minutes at a clip, and you need to get in the gym and strengthen your back under medical supervision at first. These are not options. Your back will get worse if you do not take decisive positive action. I use my I-phone for this. I set the timer for 15 minutes. When it goes off, I get up and do something else for 2 or 3 minutes. Every so often I do my stretches during the break. It's distracting and disappointing at first, but after awhile you will structure your schedule to accommodate this. THERE IS NO PILLOW OR PROSTHETIC THAT WILL FIX BACK PAIN. A lumbar pillow helps you maintain good posture and lordosis, but it will not fix the problem.

Here's a good book to look at, and it's $10. Best $10 I've ever spent:

Thank you for this. That is solid advice. I will be ordering and reading this book.

I know I have to exercise more and do stretches regularly. But did not know where to get started. I googled a bit and watched some youtube exercises but most of them are not very helpful. Hopefully, this book will provide some "straight forward" and "to the point" answers.

Welcome to the anonymous internet. This person worrying about getting cancer from sitting on a car seat, another thread is about a guy that's going to die from the neighbors fireplace smoke and another thread where you and your family get called dopes or idiots for voting for someone that they disagree with.

Yup!
That sums-up the state of things pretty darn well.

Sorry you feel that way! I am guessing you do not suffer from back pain and/or know anyone who suffers from cancer? You do not have to reply if you have nothing to contribute but appreciate if you do not make fun of it. Thanks.
