Economics though... While the Bayonne is closed and before they open the new Goethals (you'd have to take the Staten Island Ferry and then walk uptown to the Brooklyn) the GWB is the only way to walk into NYC from Jersey.
leave my house about 8am and leave for around 5:10pm.
do you drive to brooklyn for work? i have been commuting from holmdel for 7 years now and marlboro for about 1 year before that. i always feel like people talking about the commute to brooklyn are people that dont do it.
now i actually stop off at my other offices 2-3 days a week. so 2 days brooklyn, 1 day bronx, 1 day staten island, 1 day queens (then i head to brooklyn from those places). im an nyc driving expert now.
Can you elaborate on your transit? Are you driving from Holmdel to Brooklyn at rush hour and doing it in 1.25 hours?
I'm confused by this- when I used to live up north it would take 75 minutes to go 6 miles, so I'm curious as to how you're covering so much distance so quickly at the worst possible time.
Do you go through Staten Island?
I'm genuinely curious as I've been looking at jobs (and therefore, moving), and Holmdel is one that we crossed off for being too long of a commute. Not that 1.25 hours is something I would do- it would still be crossed off, but if it were only a couple days a week depending on the employer it would be possible.

Sorry my bad, I took it that you were going into downtown Brooklyn, if you are going to Bay Ridge, your timing sounds about right. I have driven from Holmdel to northern Staten Island a bunch of times (granted non-rush hour) and it takes me 45 minutes if there is no traffic, so it would probably be an hour no traffic to Bay Ridge. But I take the express bus to Manhattan from Staten Island and there is always a lot of traffic around 8 AM. Anyway driving that long everyday would drive me crazy, at least on public transit you can relax and read or surf the net on your phone or even take a nap.
