As always, the Devil is in the details, and your question omits the key details.
From WHERE in Brooklyn to WHERE in Northern NJ are you commuting?

It is best to live in Brooklyn if you have to commute to Brooklyn from NJ. Unless you don't mind taking 2 to 3 hours 1 way.

Sentencing someone to live in Brooklyn? Lol.

It is possible to live in mainland USA yes, I would say first as others, where in Brooklyn, near Guintified Gangplank (Verrazanno Br) or closer to Lower Manhattan, any of those 3 bridges, Brooklyn, Manhattan or WillyB, Williamsburg?

Going west on the Verrazanno is some crazy toll like $15 or more, I haven't done that in a while. Not cheap. You could alternate back thru lower Manhattan and hit the Holland toll free, just is subject to usual traffic clogs going west.

Then the usual sticky questions like apt, home, kids, schools, etc. Some towns like Kenilworth, Cranford, Linden, Roselle park are close to the Goethals Br which would take you across Stagnified Island.

$16. I do it 2 or 3 times a week. I get reimbursed for my tolls, or I wouldn't have taken the job.

Looking at the original question, USA Continental America to Brooklyn, most ECONOMIC,,hmmmm.

IF driving I would take the Holland Hole In Da Wall over across any of the 3 East River toll free bridges, that's the usual 3 suspects, WillyB, Manhattan or Brooklyn, no toll on the way back.

Most economical might be a PATH train to a subway also.

Much depends on mode options.

Walking is the most economical form of transportation between NJ and Brooklyn. However, you may have issues with the amount of time it takes.

Possibly, but who has the big money for the $2.75 for the subway these days? Free > $2.75 if economy is the only requirement.
