Can anyone please tell me what the current travel times are from Manalapan to NYC via bus.
Can you also travel by train if you drive to a train station? Where and what are the cost?
I hear there is the ferry but it's crazy pricey, 695 per year.

Does anyone know the cost via bus or train? How about the best travel times to get into the city? I will be a new resident soon and just want to know what my options are.

Also commuter lots. I called the township and there is a wait list. Could be 2-3 years for the commuter lots which are $201 per year. Then there is lots where i costs $2 per day to park. Please help.
Thanks!

If you are going to midtown there is a bus that goes along Rt 9 to the Port Authority- I think it costs about $350 a month if you get a monthly pass. You are looking at a minimum 1 1/4 hours depending on where you pick it up plus how long it takes you to get to Rt 9. As you said parking is a PIA, though they have a bunch of private lots. There is also a bus from the PNC Arts Center but that is a bit of a drive, though I think there is ample parking there.

The ferry is not convenient and it costs something like $695 per month- not year unfortunately. Manalapan is not really near any train station, I guess the closest one is Holmdel but then you are looking at driving to Holmdel during morning rush, and having the same parking issues- the train also takes at least an hour.

If you are working in downtown NYC, I would reconsider moving to Manalapan- you would have to take the bus to Newark (not sure the cost) then deal with switching over to the PATH and then walking from the PATH or taking the Port Authority bus and switching to the subway. Neither very appealing and it adds costs as well.

Sorry I'm not of more assistance, but I only did that commute a few times. I will tell you that commuting from Monmouth county to NYC is no picnic anyway you cut it.

For bus schedules and fares, the most accurate info would likely be on the NJ Transit and Academy Bus websites.

Too long to retain your sanity. Unless you can work from home at least twice a week...
