I grew up in South Brunswick and I remember them building this section of highway by Route 1 and Beekman Road. It went towards the Pro Skate area. Then, one day it stopped. Even to this day, nothing. I tried to poke around on Wikipedia and other sources, but could never tell what happened with this. I keep finding things for "NJ Route 92", but nothing on this specific section.

Your guess is as good as mine!
About 1/8 of a mile east of Route 1, there is actually a bridge/overpass that was constructed...long ago...but which is obstructed by those ubiquitous orange barrels, as it leads to...NOTHING!
Yup, I remember that! The project has to be over 15 years old since they ever even worked on it...
The only thing I can find on google that mention it is a PDF from DVRPC.org in a "central jersey transportation planned project status report". Theres three reports but none of them mention Northumberland Loop Road more than once.
just states: Northumberland Loop Road extension from US 1 to CR 522 just east of New Road - Not Available
As far as I can tell Northumberland was the access road for a large office complex that was proposed to be built maybe 20 years ago. The developer and the Township got in a bunch of fights over the years over how the road serving the development (Northumberland) would be paid for. Sometime in the interim the initially project was bought out, and wth the same permit approvals outstanding, the new owner or developer wanted to build housing. So there's been a lawsuit going on for a while about rezoning the area from commercial to residential, and I think it's tied up with the affordable housing lawsuit. The developer was an intervenor in the affordable housing case, so it's likely that they're petitioning to increase the Township's affordable housing obligation and get more units built.
