Hello Jersey people. I am actually from Long Island but am asking for a friend. My friend's husband was diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer and will be starting chemo and having extensive surgery in the coming weeks. A group of us want to do something for her....we were thinking of maybe some gift cards to local restaurants that also have take out/deliver in case it is difficult to get out of the house.
I am not all familiar with restaurants in the area that do delivery, but there is a service called https://eatcleanbro.com/ that may fit the bill. A fellow c/d poster mentioned them in a recent thread. I can''t vouch for them personally, as I have not used them but the website looks good!
Your friend is lucky to have you to look out for them, during this trying time.
You guys should pool together and get a prepaid debit card. Your friend can then use the prepaid debit card to pay for deliveries off websites like Yelp's eat24 or grubhub or seamless.
That will allow your friend to order for any restaurant that offers delivery as opposed to restricting them to order from a particular restaurant that you/friends chose.
Buon Appetito - Italian dinners, antipasto, hot and cold sandwiches at the deli; they also have a dining room if they want to go out.
(Benanti's is a great Italian deli but I doubt they offer gift cards, as they don't take plastic. Cash only. Great sandwiches though, if you want to stop by your friend's house yourself and bring subs or cold cuts & rolls.)
El Aguila Dorada - Mexican
La Guardiola, Pompeii, Pizza Masters - pizza delivery
Teddy's Place - Greek/gyros
The Little Food Cafe - sandwiches and wraps, salads, maybe soup? Very good individual desserts like brownies and cookies. They also do food and dessert trays if you call ahead and pick it up to bring yourself.
Thai O'Brien's - Thai
Blimpie - sub sandwiches (chain); go to the one on 538 Broadway between 24th & 25th Streets across from McDonald's; IMO that's the only good one in town. They deliver.
Houlihan's - basic chain restaurant on 440, if they feel up to going out
Da Noi is supposedly good (sit-down Italian restaurant) - I've never been.
Ordered from Bayonne BBQ once and it was fine.
If you want to stop by with a box of pastries or cookies, pick up something from Judickie's.
Best wishes to your friend.
