..perhaps she would have noticed that I was failing and able to do something about it. I don't blame my parents..I take full responsibility for my choices - I'm just making a point. I believe, especially nowadays, that a parent..mom or dad, needs to stay close to home!

Till death dear...organizing your life around whether or not hubby is going to dump your arse is sad! I get it, but it's still sad.
i'm not sure if that's directed at me personally, but if it is, you're off base. being realistic and "organizing your life around blah blah blah" are 2 different things - you make it sound like i sit and plot my marriage's demise . I'll assume you have no life insurance or disability insurance then because organizing your life around dying or becoming disabled is sad. I get it, but it's still sad.

just like you wonder if your mom SAH what different path your life would've taken, i wonder what would've happened to my mom and i when my dad died when i was young had she not been working....get it?

Well for my line of work it was easier than TRADITIONAL work. I worked midnights for over 15 years and the wife worked days. Did I drag my ass you betcha you know the routine, school, plays, sports hey I was even a PTA member. Guess what I was the only guy in class. It's all about what we offer as parents, I cleaned diapers for 4 kids and I'll be happy to clean the diapers of my grandkids(whenever it happens) .I don't get what the big deal is. We did the laundry at night time. I used to sleep 2 hours here and an hour there. My wife broke her a$$ to. And I hope that if one of my kids unfortunately turns into a crackhead he doesn't say I did it because mommy worked.

T - you commented a few times about if Hubby leaves... You're talking to a feminist here! I get the whole being a self sufficient female thing - but you seem to be downgrading moms who choose to stay home - they deserve our praises. I hold nothing against a mom who wants to stay home - or a dad even! I just really feel that due to all the crap that's going on these days that someone needs to stay home!

and they can and still work! amazing!!!

families organize themselves in all sorts of ways to function property. some have an AH parent b/c one works crazy hours (like juliann), others work split shifts, others have one or both work from home, others decide to forgo the high powered careers and each take the "mommy track" (for lack of a better term). what they all have in common is wanting to do the best for their families. they are different paths to the same goal.

i think i mentioned it once

i have NEVER denigrated SAH moms - i think i mentioned i personally SAH at one time. everything I said about working was because of MY makeup and experiences, and I was very clear about that. my one comment about "lazy SAHM", if you reread, was comparing the statement that people work only because of vacations and fancy cars. i said that's as untrue as a mom who SAH because they are lazy and won't get a job.

i have respect for all good parents who do what they can to raise happy and kind children.
