The reports now are for a "MONSTER" storm. Looks like north NJ is going to be the biggest recipient so far. Calling for 12-24 inches.

Hahahaha! You don't actually believe that the Weather Channel, of all things, gives storms and hurricanes their names? Seriously? OMG, I am cracking up - how silly!

From a page at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's website:
(Why do we name tropical storms and hurricanes?)
"NOAA’s National Hurricane Center does not control the naming of tropical storms. Instead, there is a strict procedure established by the World Meteorological Organization. For Atlantic hurricanes, there is a list of male and female names which are used on a six-year rotation. The only time that there is a change is if a storm is so deadly or costly that the future use of its name on a different storm would be inappropriate. In the event that more than twenty-one named tropical cyclones occur in a season, any additional storms will take names from the Greek alphabet.

For a complete list of upcoming and retired storm names, visit the National Weather Service website."

The Weather Channel indeed...

Since when is a blizzard or winter nor'easter a tropical storm or hurricane?

"In recent years winter storm naming has become controversial with the Weather Channel, and various media coming up with their own names for winter storms. ... Entities from the United States government which includes the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Weather Service (NWS) have also weighed in stating that they would not be naming winter storms, and have asked others to refrain from doing so." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wint..._United_States

Ouch.

I'm ready. Generator is primed and filled with fresh gas. Jury-rigging to power boiler is in place. French Toast provisions are in place, including apricot jam. Propane in place to handle blizzard bbqs. Snowblower is placed in the starting position. Gasoline is purchased and ready. Spaghettios are stocked for lunch. Fillets and chicken cutlets and frozen dinners are deployed. Home theater has movies queued and ready. All outside work is done, appraisal road work is done so I can write up reports. We basically don't have to leave the house for a week.

This is fun! And I don't care if it happens or not. The preparation is fun for its own sake. We can still have French Toast and watch movies if the storm doesn't deliver.

My Great Aunt, who was a child at the time of the incredible Blizzard of 1888, often spoke of the many casualties of that storm.
That monster storm took place from March 11-March 13, 1888:

We are ready for the storm. Oh wait, we'll be in Florida for another month and a half. Disregard!
