Yup!
I also cannot imagine living and working in that area without a car. Somebody who is car-less in that area will have to call a taxi or an Uber for every errand outside of their place of residence.
Unless they bike. But, given Route 1 and the density of traffic that seems suicidal.
I lived in one of those apartment complexes on Plainsboro Road and worked in the Forrestal Village office park. It's absolutely car country.
OP, the important thing to take away is that it's not Princeton. So anything you read about the little downtown of Princeton being walkable won't apply to you. It's a world away, figuratively speaking. It's a nice area though.
Hmm. They are trying to push for me even though I have not said yes to anything except that I will think about it and I told them my situation too - I don't drive and have to fly back home every 3 weeks or 2 weeks. They said everything will be fine and they will take care of me but... this is all just talk. It'll work for say 1 week or 2 but thereafter... not so much, I know.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place. No other work except for this (long story...essentially I keep getting messed around by agencies/head hunters and on a whim managed to some how secure this work, which I was not expecting to get due to low confidence etc...).
Cannot imagine eating breakfast/dinner every day in a hotel with their same menu's too and food at hotels are expensive anyway.
To rent a property somewhere near that area would be impossible from the sounds of it especially with the whole year lease thing (what if I needed to break it? Don't want to be penalized or have some bad report put against me).
Why do you have to go back to Seattle every month? The flights back & forth will be expensive. If it is a lease, it might be cheaper to break it, if it's romance, have them come over to NJ on occasion also.
Put an ad on Craiglist that you are looking fora room or studio rental on a month-to-month basis. Mention that you are an adult and not a student. See if you get a response.

+1 for this. craigslist >central NJ > sublet/temp wanted. This is how I find short-term housing for myself, as well as short-term tenants for when I'm gone. Put some effort into the ad. Explain your situation. Lay on the charm and be positive. No complaining about your predicament. Make yourself sound like a model trustworthy citizen. Whatever you do, don't threaten to report spammers to the authorities. That is a HUGE turn-off for me.
Check out craigslist > central NJ > short-term/temp housing offered. Here are a few offerings in Princeton. Not surprisingly, there seems to be a lot of availability for the summer.
Stay in Seattle change careers a barrister perhaps. NJ does not have Uber and the closest airport is I guess in NYC. What we do have is nice "privileged liberal" towns of which we are quite proud.
