Are there any lake towns around an hour from NYC? That can be bus, train or driving. Lakes you can swim in. Thanks!

Packanack lake in Wayne and a few others around Denville.

It's probably more than an hour but West Milford, Greenwood Lake. The lake is half in NY half in NJ and the area around it on the NY side is nice too.

I'm not a huge lake person but I wouldn't trust many of the lakes closer to the city. More people, more pollution. Grosses me out personally.

White Meadow Lake, Rockaway Township is close then you have about 2 or 3 lakes slightly closer around and in Denville NJ

Green Pond, lake Mohawk, lake hapatcong, Pines lake, packanack Lake, glen wild lake, greenwood all, upper greenwood lake.
