We were lucky and bought before the boom. We were also lucky to be able to move and get out. I loved where we lived more than anything. We couldn't get one step ahead. Finally hubby and I bit the bullet and moved to PA.

Now our taxes are a 1/3 of what they were and we have our dream home. Honeslty I would have rather lived in my small house, great neighbors, great location if we could have afforded it....

BF and I have half of our bags packed. We don't want to leave, but we may not be able to afford to stay. What I do know is, we will have to make a decision within the next couple years. It's hard, I just bought the house we are in last summer and have done a lot of renovating. Hate to think about moving after doing so much work, but we will see what happens.

Any ideas on where you're thinking of going if you do go?

First thought is KY or TN. Have to do more investigation though.

Good idea on getting out of here.

I always tell my GF that New Jersey isn't in my two year plan then she always corrects me and says it's not in my two day plan.

Can't wait to leave.

I can't recommend the Lexington Kentucky area enough. I've said it before, but during my trip out west, this was the place that struck me more positively than any other. I didn't want to leave, I wanted to unpack and make it my home. Much more of a midwestern feel than a southern feel.

I've heard others say similar things. We are probably going to do some kind of mid-country road trip next year. Probably fly into St. Louis and see a Cardinals game, then rent a car and venture around MO, KY and TN to see if anything strikes us.

Started looking to buy in a house in Jan 2007. Had three deals fall through and found in the long run that NJ wasn't for us. If a house was nice and possibly affordable the property taxes always put it out of our reach, our mortgage payment would have been in the $2,000's and keeping it under that number was a goal for us. Ended up buying in PA and are so glad we did. We come across alot of people that moved over from NJ. Seems like more and more are still coming over and commuting to NJ for work....It was a very frustrating experience looking to buy a house in Jersey, I'll never come back....
