We are considering a move for our middle school aged children.
Looking for opinions on these two towns for raising a family. Especially the Public middle school and high school. Great education. Low bullying in middle school/high school. Great clubs/athletics programs for the kids. Nice neighbors and community.
If in Princeton- is there a housing section that is good for families? Seems like less (Community) more like streets?
Same for Westfield (I have head "North")
Husband works in Newark and drives there. If you have any other recommendations I'm open. (We have looked at New Providence too- but I think it might be a tad too far away from family)
Westfield is at least half the distance, closer than Princeton. Princeton is nice, no complaints but yould probably be commuting 3 times longer.
Other diffs, Princeton being sort of a nice stately college town and many more towns around it are residential. Westfield overall no complaints either.
Clinton township or Clinton where I78 intersects with Rt 31 meets your criteria. 40 minutes drive on I78 to Newark. BTW, you get more bang for your buck than Princeton and Westfield.

That's like 40 miles, and during rush-hour in 40 min? Hard to believe. Even from Westfield, which is 4x closer, would be up to 30 min.
Depending on your schedule flexibility, many people start 6 or 6:30 in the morning, traffic is not bad at all. Real heavy traffic starts around 7:30. In the afternoon, if you leave before 4, it will be fine.
My husband works in Newark - so I don't want to kill him with commute (but I see Princeton would be an hour or more a bit tough... so looking more North. Love a walkable downtown. Jewish/Catholic area. Nice sense of Community. So was thinking Westfield. New Providence was very nice too but seemed much further away as we have some family/friends in the Princeton area.

If we are talking about rush hour, it will be more than an hour. I have a friend who commutes Princeton to Edison, and it takes him about 1h. Princeton to Newark would be way over 1h. Go with Westfield.

The good walkable downtowns tend to be in towns with a train station. Towns without a train station are more sprawling and car-oriented.
You pay more to buy in a train town, and since your husband drives to work, you're paying for something that doesn't directly benefit you. On the other hand, houses in train towns appreciate more and hold their value better than houses in non-train towns.
