I just moved to downtown JC... I haven't even fully furnished the place yet but a bunch of my friends wants to check it out this holiday weekend(Sunday/Monday). Do they need to park in a garage or is street parking ok? I don't know what the rules are here except that a permit is needed. I live near the Shop Rite/BJs, could they maybe park in that lot for a few hours? Thanks in advance.

The way that those lots are patrolled by private towing firms employed by those businesses, I doubt if their cars would be able to remain for more than an hour or so before being towed. The...ransom...to retrieve the car will be...expensive.

If no street parking is available, I would advise that they park at Newport Mall, and pay the relatively reasonable fee for parking.

I'm pretty sure parts of Washington St are unrestricted on Sundays - pretty sure if you drive down from around Target down past the Mall towards the Powerhouse you'll find an on street spot to park in.

Same. I was towed from Target lot after 30 minutes, they had spotters. EZ Tow charges $180 and change to retrieve the car same day. Heard that Shoprite/BJ's is even worse.

Your best bet is to use Newport Mall garage or Spothero or a similar app. The meter maids have no mercy for out of state plates. Hell they'll improperly ticket for resident permits even.
