Hi there. I hail from Washington state but we are considering a move to New Jersey, where my father's family is from. My husband is a teacher and I have found with researching that they pay their teachers really well in the state. My concern is friendliness - from what I have heard, NJ is not home to very nice people. WA is home to the passive aggressive kind of unfriendliness, and I really want to live somewhere where people say hi to each other on the sidewalk (and not look away). Does anybody know of any pockets of Jersey where people are nice? Anywhere? Or should I just move to Georgia or something? Thanks!

I’m sorry. I have to apologize for my previous post. Yes we have nice “pockets “ in our state. However we are only nice to smart people. Please head straight to Georgia where everyone says hi and bless your heart.

Additionally if your husband is as ignorant as you are we really don’t need him teaching here. Please take him to Georgia with you.

A lot of people who live there moved in from out of state. Your neighbor might be from Pennsylvania, Ohio, or North Carolina. New Jerseyans aren't all aggressive and angry. I think that Northeastern NJ with its high housing costs and taxes has a "vibe". It seems that everyone is in a hurry. Many interpret that as rude. It's not. They have commute times and just so many hours in a day.
When we lived in NC, my husband landed a job in Camden County. We couldn't find a rental we liked there, so lived in Burlington County. It was one of the nicest places I've ever lived in my life. Carmel, CA gets first place. Burlington County, NJ gets second place. Imagine that.

You write an offensive post asking if WE are nice?
I hope you are just a troll, because I cannot believe a person could be this rude and ignorant.

Dont listen to these other posters. They are perfect examples of the kinds of people you will run into. In your face, blunt, way too serious.
I grew up in Northern NJ, and it is either snobby rich entitled kids, racist, insular and introverted people. Sure there are nice people scattered about, but they are hard to find, and are outnumbered by the people I describe.
Now I hear south NJ is much different. More laid back, and friendlier. It must be the Pennsylvania influence, or the Baltimore, being closer to the south.

Whoa. My sister lived in Seattle in the '70s and '80s. There were plenty of nice people, and just as many snotty nosed fools. It all depends upon where you live and your station in life.

I wasn't being snarky. There are a lot of positive things about living in NJ. But that outward friendliness is not one of them.
If you're looking for that, look elsewhere.
I agree about the South Jersey comment....people are nicer down there than in North Jersey
