Any good options of commuting to Wall St area from Middlesex, NJ around 9PM or so? Checked parking facilities in the area(downtown NYC) and they're hovering around $40 a night. I believe parking will not be permitted passed 7AM so that's not an option. If I had to park for weeknights, this would eat up my salary real quick, not to mention Turnpike & HT tolls. Maybe drive to Jersey City first, leave the car overnight?
There is a lot of free parking close to the Exchange Place PATH station after 6:00 PM. But you need to make sure you'll be back in time to get the car in the morning. ticketing will start at 9AM at metered spots. If you leave your car in a commuter spot after a certain time (I believe 7 AM), you will get booted. Read the signs. This is easily the best way to do it if you can get back in time in the morning. Some of the commuter spots are about a hundred yards from the Exchange Place PATH station, and the ride only takes like 3 minutes.
If you can't get back in time, there's a ton of free parking that's unlimited near the Garfield Avenue Light Rail station. There is still street cleaning, so you still have to read the signs, but once you get the hang of it, it's really easy. Just take the light rail from Garfield Ave to Exchange Place, and it's a short walk to the PATH station. The total cost of doing this is about $4 each way.
Either way, to avoid paying tolls take rt. 78, and then exit on to rt. 1&9, that will take you over a couple of draw bridges and into Jersey City with no tolls, then just follow navigation to either Exchange Place or Garfield Ave. Light Rail Station.
Thanks Babo & BlackJack. I'm thinking of parking by Journal Square. There's suppose to be a multilevel parking garage there for $11/12 hrs and take the path to WTC. But, I'll keep your suggestions and warning in mind as an alternative.
