Hi,
We have recently moved to US (New Jersey), My son is an autism kid and I would like to know details on the schools available in and around Jersey city (or) the best way to identify a good school in New Jersey.
Can someone please provide me us some information on the same.

Regards,
Kumar.

Your child should be evaluated, and if deemed necessary, than receive an IEP which defines the services that your child needs.

Jersey City is one of the least likely school districts to provide any services to your child.

Not all school districts obey the laws that require schools to provide an appropriate education and services to special needs children.

We are in Jersey City, you will get all the services your child qualifies for. Quality is a different story but that is not unique to Jersey City. Some parents are happy with their services... It depends on the teachers and providers your child is assigned... Some are so dedicated and effective (my son had one last year, made great progress). Others are just collecting a paycheck. Unfortunately my son has lots of paycheck collectors this year and we are not happy.

Please check out Sensory Kids. It's a private service provider, pretty expensive but the quality is amazing. They were recommended by all the good therapists and local parents. We tried going in network for speech and OT and PT for almost a year ($25 copay each session vs $125 at Sensory Kids) but it was just a waste of my and my son's time...

Good luck!
