I consider myself to be a good tipper. I generally tip 25-30% in normal tipping situations and I find myself tipping people that others don't, anyone who I think went above and beyond to help me.
But still, I never heard of tipping a gas station attendant before.
Do you tip the cashier at McDonald's? Come on, it's just $2.
Do you tip the cashier at Walmart? Come on, it's just $2.
Your justification for tipping a gas station attendant can be used in any situation.
The point is that it makes no sense for someone to say "It's just $2, why not tip them" when they don't do the same thing for the thousands of other people that provide goods or service to them in some way.
And he makes a valid point that I thought about myself. There are many service people that we typically don’t consider tipping, and given the poll results, for the vast majority of us, gas station attendants are one of them.
