I live in Union City and work in Livingston, the traffic is driving me crazy!!! I have tried all the routes the GPS offers but no matter what I get caught in this traffic , are there any back roads or something I could use !!
Go with the flow and get used to conditions on the ground
Everyone has either GPS or naviagation these days either a separate device or their phones, so the days of unknown short cuts are basically over. This is why you are finding so much traffic on the off roads. Everyone is doing the same thing as you....

JFK Boulevard to Secaucus Road to County Ave to New County Road to exit 15x to New Jersey Turnpike south to exit 15W to Interstate 280 west to Livingston. That route gets around the Hudson County congestion, but I'm not aware of a way around 280.
The google maps app will give you the best possible route (quickest) out of many, and you could set it to avoid highways or use the most highways and other similar settings to try to control your route. Sometimes it shaves off as much as 15 minutes from my commute during peak traffic hours. I think Waze does the same but for some reason I like google maps better.
Union City and Hudson County in general is the worst place for traffic in the entire state. I used to live in Jersey City and couldn't wait to move out of there. Is there a need for you to live in Union City? If not, then why not move to Livingston or a nearby town.
Try carpooling, there is a Web site that my wife used that tries to match drivers who travel in the same direction. Is there public transportation, train/bus that you can take?
Alternatively, are you able to work from home at least a few days a week?
