Hi all, my husband and I are thinking of moving to matawan or old bridge. Can anyone tell me which is the better town? We have 3 kids- 4yr, 7yr and 8yr old. Would like to get insight on the school system and if there are any developments with recreational activities or pools? We are also commuters to downtown nyc so any advice there would help! Thanks so much!

Lakeridge on Route 516 (Old Bridge) but borders on Matawan.

This development has 315 single family homes with a private swim/tennis club just for the home owners (if memory serves me correctly about $480 a YEAR).

We lived there for 27 years and raised our family. It was like living in utopia.

In regard to NYC you have 3 choices. Matawan train, Bus 139 on Route 9, bus pickup on route 516.

I would say the Old Bridge/Matawan schools are on the same level, but Old Bridge was voted this year as one of the safest places to live. Plus Old Bridge has an outdoor ice skating rink and a YMCA.

Old Bridge has the buses. Academy RT 9 that goes straight Downtown. Matawan has the train. I think OB has better schools.
If I had my choice I would pick Old Bridge. If I may ask what part of OB are you looking at as there is a difference? I think East Brunswick has the best schools but is a little more expensive.

I am not sure what parts there are, just starting my search now. What areas should I be looking at? (Didn’t know east Brunswick was a part of old bridge)

East Brunswick is a another town that shares the West border(rt 18 ) of Old Bridge . Old Bridge Spotswood and East Brunswick are right next to each other on the West Border. What is your range of spending is key here?

Thanks for the info. I’d like to stay below 600k if possible.

Also, if anyone can tell me about old bridge high? It received a low rating on great schools and was wondering why? Should we be majorly concerned about the education or the population? What are the nationalities that currently make up these Towns and anything bordering it? For reference, we are Italian and Norwegian. Appreciate it!

There are thousands of Italians in Old Bridge. That's the least of your problems.

I agree there are many Italians in Old bridge. What are some of the problems? They way I look at it every town(mine included)has problems. Total paradise does not exist. I did hear that West of RT 9 is better in OB. .

Wrong. East of Route 9 in Old Bridge has clearly the higher priced homes and better sections.

With a good number being former Staten Island residents, so if the OP is coming from the Rock they will have plenty of company.
