Where are you coming from? Hamilton.
Why are you moving? Fiance and I just got new jobs.
Where will you be working? I will be working in Summit, NJ and my fiance will be working in Lyndhurst, NJ.
Will you buy or rent? Rent.
What is your budget? <$2,000.
What kind of place are you looking for? Apartment complex, apartment with a doorman, or a townhouse.
Will anyone (spouse, children, pets) be moving with you? Just my fiance and I.
Do you need/want good public schools?
Briefly describe the kind of neighborhood you'd like to live in Young, safe, small town feel
List three things that are important to you in order of importance. Safety, downtown area, new construction.

Yes, we are both working in Northern NJ. However, we both have ties (family and side jobs) in Central NJ near Hamilton. We need to be back and forth from there and wherever we live 1-2x per week.

Suggestions? I was looking at South Brunswick, Milltown, and New Brunswick. Nothing is sticking out to me though. We lived in Princeton for a few years and would love to have that "feel."

I personally wouldn't consider Summit "north Jersey"...

Oh, you're naughty. Then again, I put 'Central Jersey' as my location here in Union County, lol. Isn't anything south of I-78 like, Delaware, or something?

Sorry, OP, couldn't resist.

Hahahaha, I grew up in Bergen County about 10 miles south of the NY/NJ border...REAL North Jersey.

Now I'm in Monmouth. I say I'm Central. South Jersey is "where hardly anyone commutes to NYC."

I’d recommend living closer to work since you have to go there EVERY weekday, even if that makes your weekly trips to Hamilton a little longer.

That said, the town smack in the middle between Summit and Lyndhurst is Newark. Better options would be Cranford or Westfield, maybe Metuchen. They’re closer to Summit than to Lyndhurst and they’re positioned for an easy hop onto the Parkway and then Turnpike to head down to South Jersey. They’re also very cute towns that might have some of the qualities you liked about Princeton. I’d assume you could find a decent 1bedroom in your budget in all three towns. Westfield might be hardest on the budget.
