Hi I have recently started working at Wall street and need to relocate to New Jersey. I am looking for apartment (studio or 1bhk) whichever suits the budget (max 2000USD) in and around jersey city or Newport or any other place which is closer to New York. Prefer the location to be closer to public transport or market place, as I don't drive.
Luxury rental units is def out of your price range in downtown JC unless you get a roommate. Another option for downtown is to find on craigslists for non-lux units. Same story for Hoboken.
You'd be better off looking at JSQ or Newark with your price points for studio or 1bed.
You can find a nice newer apartment in Rahway with balcony, parking, swimming pool in your price range. Transfer at Secaucus Junction.
Travel time will be a bit over 1 hour.
Hoboken: Commute via PATH and settle for older walk-up.
Jersey City (Grove St): Commute via PATH and settle for older walk-up.
Jersey City (Journal Square): Commute via PATH, might be able to squeeze into a studio in new luxury buildings like Journal Squared.
Harrison: Commute via PATH, budget allows new luxury buildings in a studio.
The general rule is that the farther you go from WTC (Exchange Pl --> Grove St --> Journal Square --> Harrison --> Newark Penn Station) the nicer the apartment you can get, but the area won't quite be as nice. FWIW I live in Newark and I really like it, 10 minute walk to the PATH.

Hmmm. Personally, I'd rather live in Harrison than Journal Square. Closer to the great Ironbound restaurants, it's an up and coming neighborhood, and if you're a soccer fan, you can't beat Red Bull Arena. However, at $2000 per month, you'll be able to find a small apartment around Grove Street. Grove Street is a great area with an easier commute to WTC than Hoboken. Don't venture further south than Jersey Medical, though.
