I'll probably use it to set up the second bedroom of our new home. New carpet, futon, end table, night stand, tv and stand. How much am I getting again?

Not EVERYBODY will get a rebate, though.

Actually, Ewing Township is a college town (College of New Jersey). Our contract with the realtor expires July 13th, so if we don't have an offer by then, we may very well put it out to rent to college students, which is not what I would really like to do, but it's better than paying that mortgage every month. Apparently rentals to students in our town can bring in more than enough to cover the mortgage, so that is an option.

Now you're doing exactly what Bush hoped we would all do. Sounds like most of us can't afford to "spend" it. Good for you.

I wouldn't exactly call it a gift from GW. The country doesn't have a penny and is swimming in debt.

The money is actually being borrowed from our kids future incomes. LOVELY.

IMO, this is not a rebate, it's welfare. When even people on public assistance are getting a rebate, it's akin to welfare. The only people who should be getting rebates are those who are gainfully employed, and the rebate should be higher based on the amount of your W2 the previous year.

Of course, if the marginal federal income tax rates are lowered even more than they were in 2001 and 2003, this thread would be moot. But there is a built in % of people who nowadays don't have a problem with the federal government raising taxes, particularly if it's on an income bracket higher than their own.
