After househunting for sometime, we are feeling discouraged finding a decent home in northern Bergen County in the 550 to 600 range. Trying to think of other options. My husband works in mahwah so we would like to stay close by. Is Rockland County worth checking out? I have heard mixed things about the schools. And also things like corruption in government etc.
For commuting to Mahwah, you could try Wayne, or better yet, Ringwood. Ringwood may be a bit remote for some, but you can certainly find some nice houses in your price range.
Have you looked in hillsdale and rivervale? I'm surprised you can't find anything in commuting distance to work within your price range unless you are looking for a newer build.

Yes, we have looked at both of those towns. We actually really liked a home in Hillsdale but it turns out the house has severe foundation problems. Sadly there is not much in this price range except major fixer uppers.
There isn't much on the market now. Wait a little bit when more comes on the market in the spring at least before you give up on Bergen County.

It looks affordable but concern is that the schools are not good? We have a young daughter.
