I go several weeks each year and haven't seen any jellies in a very long time, but we are talking very early August/late July. This is in Beach Haven and Brant Beach. The further south you go, the fewer daytrippers there are. No bathrooms, sparse parking, no food shacks. Everyone tends to be an owner or weekly renter with families. Nothing like Snooky whatsoever.
And I agree with the above...if you get a bay breeze, the massive biting flies get blown over to the ocean side. I've seen them drag off young kids and small cars, never to be seen again.

The worst day I've ever had at the Jersey Shore was during a heat wave when there was no breeze at all. You were fine if you were out in the water, but as soon as you were approaching shore, the little buggers were all over you. We went back to the hotel and swam in the pool.

Can confirm, a swarm of green flies once dropped my car into the bay.
